Dietary Fatty Acid Patterns Influence Metabolic Syndrome Risk Factors

The cross-sectional study explored the association between dietary fatty acid patterns and metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk factors among 340 overweight and obese adults. The principal component analysis identified three dietary fatty acid patterns: saturated fatty acids (SFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and long-chain combined fatty acids (LC-CFA). Higher SFA consumption was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol but higher fasting blood glucose and insulin resistance. Higher PUFA intake, particularly linoleic acid, was linked to lower fasting blood glucose, while higher LC-CFA intake was associated with lower total cholesterol. These findings suggest that dietary fatty acid patterns significantly influence MetS risk factors and highlight potential nutritional strategies for managing MetS
