Disagreement Between the Accepted Best-Fit Circle Method to Calculate Bone Loss Between Injured and Uninjured Shoulders

This study aimed to investigate whether best-fit circles based on affected glenoids with defects accurately represent normal inferior glenoids before injury. The study included 58 patients with unilateral recurrent anterior shoulder instability. The diameter of best-fit circles was compared between affected and unaffected glenoids, and glenoid defect sizes were calculated and compared. Serial virtual glenoid defects were created, and diameters of best-fit circles before and after virtual defects were compared. The study found that best-fit circles based on affected glenoids do not always accurately represent the native glenoid, leading to inaccurate circle sizes and defect estimates.
