Disease-modifying therapies in managing disability worsening in paediatric-onset multiple sclerosis

High-efficacy therapies have been shown to slow disability progression in adults with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). A study now explores their impact on paediatric-onset MS. Evaluating over 5000 patients, it found high-efficacy therapies significantly reduced disability worsening across various stages, particularly effective when administered early during minimal disability. Even low-efficacy therapies showed benefits in delaying disability progression. The findings suggest early treatment initiation with high-efficacy therapies for paediatric MS patients could preserve neurological function, highlighting the importance of timely intervention to mitigate long-term disability.
