
A systematic review and meta-analysis examined the use of first-trimester screening algorithms for preeclampsia and their impact on preterm preeclampsia rates compared to standard maternity care. The analysis included seven studies with a total of 377,790 participants. The results showed that early initiation of aspirin based on a high-risk screening algorithm reduced the prevalence of preterm preeclampsia by 39% compared to routine antenatal care. There were also significant reductions in the prevalence of preeclampsia at various gestational ages and stillbirths. The findings suggest that implementing first-trimester screening algorithms for preeclampsia and initiating preventative therapy with aspirin can effectively reduce the occurrence of preterm preeclampsia.
