This meta-analysis aimed to review the impact of excess body weight on sperm production. A total of 28 observational studies were included, involving male subjects over 18 years old with various degrees of body weight excess. The analysis revealed that overweight individuals had lower total sperm count and progressive motility compared to those with normal weight. Obese men exhibited lower sperm concentration, total sperm count, progressive and total motilities, as well as reduced normal morphology. Factors such as age, smoking habit, varicocele, and testosterone levels influenced these outcomes. Overall, increased body weight was found to be a risk factor for male infertility, negatively affecting gonadal function.
