A recent study investigated the link between trigeminal nerve (TN) dose and toxicity in patients undergoing conventional radiation therapy for parotid tumors. Results showed that 61% of patients experienced Grade I–II late TN toxicity, with symptoms including chin area sensation loss, jaw movement difficulties, and paresthesia. Significant impacts on TN toxicity were observed for total radiation dose, Dmax, PTV-TN Dmax, D1cc, D0.5cc, and D0.1cc. Threshold doses leading to toxicity were identified. This study suggests the need for further research in prospective trials for radiation-induced TN injury in head and neck cancer patients.
