Dupilumab for COPD with Type 2 Inflammation Indicated by Eosinophil Counts

A phase 3 clinical trial investigated the effectiveness of dupilumab, a monoclonal antibody that blocks interleukin-4 and interleukin-13, in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and elevated blood eosinophil counts. The trial included 939 patients with high exacerbation risk despite standard triple therapy. The results showed that patients treated with dupilumab experienced a lower annualized rate of moderate or severe exacerbations than those who received a placebo. Dupilumab also improved lung function, quality of life, and respiratory symptoms. The study concluded that dupilumab is beneficial for COPD patients with type 2 inflammation indicated by elevated eosinophil counts.
