This review discusses the contrasting trajectories in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk among individuals with familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and type 1 diabetes. While early statin treatment has significantly reduced ASCVD risk in FH patients, those with type 1 diabetes still face a heightened risk of death. Drawing parallels between the two conditions, the review explores the role of lipid abnormalities in ASCVD development, proposing that lessons from FH management could inform more stringent dyslipidaemia control in children with type 1 diabetes.
