A recent unmatched case-control study at a prominent UK university hospital analyzed data from 37,348 individuals who gave birth. The study aimed to pinpoint risk factors for preterm birth detectable at the first antenatal appointment. Key determinants, including parity, ethnicity, employment status, and safeguarding concerns, were identified through multivariable analysis. The study demonstrates that routine data collected at booking can effectively predict individuals at risk for birth before arrival, offering the potential for timely interventions and specialized care services.
