A recent study published in the European Journal of Ophthalmology has identified crucial indices to differentiate forme-fruste keratoconus (FFKC) and early keratoconus (early KC) from thin normal corneas. Through an analysis of 156 eyes with thin, normal corneas, 99 eyes with early KC, and 41 eyes with FFKC, researchers evaluated various corneal parameters, including keratometric indices, pachymetry indices, corneal aberrations, and elevation indices. Notably, the study highlighted the significance of apex front curvature, keratoconus (KC) summary indices, vertical coma, and vertical trefoil in distinguishing the different groups. With high precision, Sirius topography proved effective in predicting the presence of early KC and FFKC, offering potential advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
