Effect of early vitamin D supplementation on the incidence of preeclampsia in primigravid women

A recent study assessed the impact of cholecalciferol supplementation on preeclampsia in primigravid women. Administering a monthly dose of 60,000 IU of vitamin D from early pregnancy significantly decreased the risk of preeclampsia (RR = 0.36) and preterm delivery (RR = 0.5). The intervention group also exhibited a lower risk of low birth weight (RR = 0.43) and caesarean section (RR = 0.63). Additionally, infants in the supplemented group had higher APGAR scores at the 5th minute and increased newborn size. These findings highlight the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation in reducing preeclampsia and associated complications.
