
A recent study examined the impact of aging and environmental changes on the properties of a radiopacified calcium silicate-based cement. The cement was tested with and without the addition of silver nanoparticles or bioactive glass, as well as two commercial materials. The samples were immersed in either ultrapure water or fetal bovine serum for 28 days and analyzed for various characteristics. The results showed that alkalinity, calcium release, antibacterial activity, and cytotoxicity increased over time without medium replenishment. Immersion in fetal bovine serum led to lower alkalinity, reduced antibacterial properties, and decreased cytotoxicity compared to water immersion. Different cements and modifications had varying effects on the leaching properties. The findings highlight the importance of considering exposure conditions when evaluating cement's clinical properties.
