Effect of psychosocial interventions for depression in adults with chronic kidney disease

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of psychotherapy on depression in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing dialysis. The analysis revealed a weighted mean difference (WMD) of -2.32 for depression, indicating a reduction in depressive symptoms with psychosocial interventions. Heterogeneity was observed in Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scores. Significant improvements were noted in the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) tool, Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SF) scores, and the S-PRT scale. The findings suggest that psychosocial interventions likely decrease depression levels and may benefit the quality of life in CKD patients, providing evidence for implementing such interventions in kidney care settings.
