A study analyzed data from 20 medical centers to assess residual stone fragments (RFs) following retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for kidney stones. The research compared the accuracy of unenhanced computerized tomography (CT) and X-rays/ultrasound for estimating RFs. Clinically significant RFs (CSRFs) were defined as RFs ≥ 4mm. After matching patients for age, gender, and stone characteristics, post-operative CT scans reported a significantly higher number of patients with RFs ≥ 4mm compared to X-rays/ultrasound. The study highlights the importance of using CT for accurate assessment and planning reinterventions.
