This study investigated the effects of vaccination on platelet mitochondrial function and the production of endogenous coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in patients with post-acute COVID-19. The results showed that vaccination protected platelet mitochondrial bioenergy function in patients with post-acute COVID-19 but did not affect the levels of endogenous CoQ10. The study suggests that vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 can prevent the reduction of platelet mitochondrial respiration and energy production. The mechanisms behind the suppression of CoQ10 levels by the virus remain unclear. The findings highlight the potential use of CoQ10 determination and mitochondrial bioenergetics monitoring for targeted therapy in post-acute COVID-19 patients.
