A retrospective cohort study investigated the clinical outcomes of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support using polypropylene (PP) oxygenation membranes compared to poly-methylpentene (PMP). Among 152 patients, PP membranes necessitated more changes, primarily due to low oxygen transfer. Renal replacement therapy complications were more frequent with PP, yet mortality rates showed no significant differences. The study concludes that PP membranes proved a viable contingency, enhancing ECMO support availability amid challenging circumstances and exemplifying adaptability during the pandemic crisis.
