Effectiveness and safety of polyacrylamide hydrogel injection for knee osteoarthritis

A novel injectable polyacrylamide hydrogel (iPAAG) shows promising results for osteoarthritis (OA) treatment, according to a study. Among 49 participants receiving iPAAG injections for knee OA, 46 completed a 52-week extension phase. Significant reductions in WOMAC pain score (-17.7 points), stiffness (11.0 points), physical function (18.0 points), and patient global assessment (PGA) score (16.3 points) were noted (p < 0.0001). At 52 weeks, 62.2% patients were OMERACT-OARSI responders. The study suggests sustained benefits and safety of iPAAG after a single injection.
