A recentclinical trial reveals fenofibrate's efficacy in treating Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), a progressive autoimmune liver disease. The 12-month study included 117 UDCA treatment-naive patients, comparing UDCA-only to a combination of UDCA and fenofibrate. Results indicate a significantly higher biochemical response rate (81.4%) in the UDCA-Fenofibrate group compared to UDCA-only (64.3%). While both groups showed similar noninvasive measures of liver fibrosis, fenofibrate demonstrated a notable impact on biochemical markers. This breakthrough suggests fenofibrate's potential as an effective therapy for PBC. Further research is crucial to validate these findings.
