Effectiveness of nirmatrelvir-ritonavir versus azvudine for adult inpatients with severe or critical COVID-19

A recent study compared the clinical outcomes of Paxlovid and azvudine in adult inpatients with severe or critical COVID-19. The cohort comprised 955 individuals, with 451 patients in the Paxlovid group and 504 in the azvudine group. Results showed that both treatments had similar effectiveness in in-hospital mortality rates and length of hospital stay. However, after 7 days of therapy, the Paxlovid group exhibited a greater decline in SOFA score compared to the azvudine group (p<0.001). These findings suggest comparable efficacy between the two drugs, highlighting the need for further large-scale studies or randomized controlled trials to validate these results.
