The study evaluated the effectiveness of first- and second-generation potassium binders in managing hyperkalemia and their impact on RAASi treatment. Both types of binders reduced potassium levels significantly within 15 days, with second-generation binders showing greater persistence. However, a notable proportion of patients (31.4%) had dose reductions or discontinuation of RAASi therapy despite achieving normokalemia. The study suggests that early adjustments to RAASi treatment may be premature and warrants reconsideration to optimize outcomes.
