This study aimed to assess the impact of using correctly sized blood pressure (BP) cuffs versus improperly sized ones on automated BP measurements. Conducted with 195 adults, the research found that for individuals needing a smaller cuff, using a regular cuff led to significantly lower BP readings. Conversely, for those requiring larger cuffs, using a regular cuff led to significantly higher BP readings. This was consistent across participants with different systolic BP and body mass index levels. The study highlights the importance of using appropriately sized cuffs to avoid inaccurate BP measurements, especially in cases where one-size-fits-all cuffs are used, advocating for personalized cuff selection.
