Effects of diet on MS onset and course

Recent research highlights the potential impact of diet quality on multiple sclerosis (MS) development and course. A study involving 361 individuals with MS and 125 healthy control counterparts reveals that a low-quality diet during childhood raises the risk of MS in later life. For those already diagnosed with MS, individuals who consumed ample fruits and vegetables at age 50 exhibited lower disability levels. Moreover, maintaining a high-quality diet in middle age correlated with reduced brain lesion volumes in MS patients. These findings underscore the importance of lifelong dietary habits in managing MS risk and progression.
