The study, which analyzed 22 trials involving 1780 patients, found that music-based therapies significantly improved cognition in 15 trials, quality of life (QoL) in 11 trials, and neuropsychiatric symptoms in six trials when compared to non-music therapies. This suggests that music-based therapy is a safe and effective nonpharmacological intervention for patients with dementia, offering potential benefits in improving cognitive function, QoL, and managing neuropsychiatric symptoms. The findings highlight the growing scholarly interest in nonpharmacological approaches to dementia care.
