A study investigating the impact of pitavastatin on cardiovascular health in people with HIV (PWH) found promising results. Over 5.1 years, pitavastatin reduced major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) by 35% in the REPRIEVE trial. The study, involving 804 participants, showed that pitavastatin led to a decrease in noncalcified coronary plaque volume compared to placebo. Additionally, it reduced progression of plaque and markers of lipid oxidation and arterial inflammation. These findings suggest that pitavastatin could help mitigate cardiovascular risks in PWH, potentially explaining the observed reduction in MACE.
