In a phase 3 clinical trial called DISCREET, apremilast, an oral immunomodulating drug, was tested for its effectiveness and safety in treating genital psoriasis. The study involved patients with moderate-to-severe genital psoriasis and revealed that 39.6% of those on apremilast achieved a significant improvement in their condition compared to 19.5% on a placebo. This marked a substantial treatment difference, with improvements in genital symptoms, skin involvement, and quality of life. Apremilast appears to be a promising oral systemic treatment for genital psoriasis, offering hope for patients with limited treatment options.
