A recent study comparing the efficacy and safety of once-weekly insulin icodec, a novel ultra-long action basal insulin, with other basal insulin analogues for managing type 2 diabetes (T2D) has yielded promising results. The study revealed that insulin icodec demonstrated higher glycated haemoglobin reduction and increased achievement of HbA1c targets (<7%) without hypoglycaemia compared to other analogues. While the time spent in the target glycaemic range was similar, insulin icodec exhibited a higher incidence of level 1 hypoglycaemia. The study concludes that once-weekly insulin icodec is effective and safe for managing T2D, showcasing superior efficacy compared to basal insulin analogues.
