Efficacy and Safety of Oral Semaglutide in Elderly T2DM Patients

This real-world, retrospective study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of oral semaglutide in patients aged 65 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The study found a significant reduction in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) of −0.44% after six months, with an increase in the proportion of patients achieving HbA1c ≤7%. Body weight also decreased significantly, along with improvements in cardiovascular and lipid parameters. Adverse events were reported in 10.9% of patients, and 6.9% discontinued treatment. Overall, oral semaglutide was safe, effective, and well-tolerated in elderly T2DM patients.
