A recent study analyzed the effectiveness of trigeminal parasympathetic pathway (TPP) stimulation for treating dry eye. Researchers reviewed 14 randomized trials involving 1714 patients who underwent TPP stimulation via electrical or chemical methods. The findings suggest TPP stimulation significantly reduced dry eye symptoms and improved tear production and eye health markers compared to inactive controls. However, adverse events were more common with TPP stimulation. The study emphasizes TPP stimulation's potential as a dry eye treatment but calls for further research to confirm its benefits and address concerns regarding adverse effects.
