A recent clinical trial evaluated the effectiveness of a combination of injectable-platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) and type-1 collagen particles in healing periapical bone defects and closing bony windows. The experimental group received the i-PRF and collagen graft alongside periapical surgery, while the control group did not undergo guided bone regeneration procedures. After 12 months, there was no significant difference in healing between the groups, with both showing high success rates in reducing lesion volume and size of buccal and palatal windows. The addition of the i-PRF and collagen did not improve healing in through-and-through periapical defects.
