The study investigated the efficacy of tranexamic acid (TXA) in treating melasma through different routes. A systematic review of 28 randomized control trials revealed that oral TXA, when used alongside adjuvant treatment, significantly improved the melasma area and severity index (MASI)/modified MASI scores at 8 and 12 weeks. However, the topical and intradermal routes did not show significant changes compared to adjuvant treatment. The study emphasizes the need for further research, especially addressing the adverse effects and variations in different skin colours associated with TXA use.
