A comprehensive 8-year cohort study examined axial elongation trajectories in high myopia. The 793 participants, categorized by age, revealed distinct trajectories: stable, moderate, and rapid progression. The study found significant associations between rapid progression, a 6.92 times higher risk of pathological myopic macular degeneration, and decreased visual acuity. These findings emphasize the importance of identifying and intervening in high-risk individuals early to prevent vision impairment and blindness. The study contributes valuable insights for long-term myopia management.
