A recent study examined the variation in calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) expression between migraine (MA) patients with and without patent foramen ovale (PFO), assessing CGRP's predictive significance for PFO-associated MA. The study involved 153 MA patients, 51 with PFO and 102 without. Significant differences were observed in CGRP levels and HIT-6 scores between the MA with PFO and MA-only groups. Multivariate analysis identified CGRP as an independent risk factor for PFO-associated MA. ROC analysis determined a 79 pg/mL CGRP level as optimal for diagnosing PFO in MA patients, with 72.55% sensitivity and 78.43% specificity. These findings suggest that elevated CGRP levels may serve as a clinical indicator for PFO in MA patients.
