A recent cohort study of 4,018 acute stroke patients explored the impact of stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) on in-hospital outcomes. Elevated SHR levels correlated with increased in-hospital mortality and longer hospital stays. With each standard deviation rise in SHR, in-hospital mortality risk increased by 26%. Furthermore, higher SHR levels were associated with a significant increase in length of stay. Receiver operating characteristic analysis indicated SHR's superior predictive value for in-hospital mortality compared to admission blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels.
