Eli Lilly's Zepbound Effective in Treating Sleep Apnea

Eli Lilly announced that its weight-loss drug, Zepbound (tirzepatide), significantly alleviated moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in up to 52% of patients across two late-stage trials. The first study indicated a 55% reduction in episodes of irregular breathing, while the second showed a 62.8% reduction when combined with continuous positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. Zepbound resolved sleep apnea in 43% of patients on the drug alone and 51.5% using PAP, compared to 14.9% and 13.6% in placebo groups, respectively. Zepbound also improved biomarkers related to sleep apnea and heart disease. The drug’s safety profile remained consistent with past studies.
