Endemic parkinsonism: clusters, biology and clinical features

Endemic parkinsonism: clusters, biology and clinical features

Endemic parkinsonism encompasses diseases featuring dominant parkinsonian syndromes, typical or atypical, localized to specific geographic regions or populations. Currently, ten distinct phenotypes exist worldwide. This review serves as a historical reference and offers insights into each of these ten endemic parkinsonism phenotypes. It sheds light on the interplay between genetic and environmental factors in neurodegenerative diseases, not only within endemic parkinsonism but also within the broader context of research in this field.
