The study assessed esketamine-sufentanil combination for postoperative patient-controlled analgesia (PCIA) in 91 patients undergoing oral and maxillofacial surgery. Patients in the esketamine group had lower pain scores, higher sedation at 6 and 12 hours (P < 0.05), reduced PCIA use, and improved satisfaction and recovery (P < 0.001). Fewer adverse events like nausea were noted, though one nightmare occurred. No difference in rescue analgesia was found. Esketamine enhanced pain relief and recovery, showing promise for clinical use.
