Evaluating Antiplaque Benefits of Antimicrobial Systems Using a New In Vitro Method

The study assessed a new in vitro method for evaluating the antiplaque benefits of antimicrobial systems, including CPC, SnF2, Listerine, ZnCl2, and NaF. Gingival plaque samples were tested for glycolysis and regrowth using pH microelectrodes and optical density measurements, respectively. Results showed significant dose responses and differences among treatments. Statistical analysis confirmed the method's sensitivity to antimicrobial actions, aligning with clinical observations and highlighting its potential as a convenient screening tool for antimicrobial agents.
