
In a groundbreaking study, a novel spectacle lens has demonstrated its potential to slow myopia progression in children. The prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial conducted with 126 Israeli children aged 6-13 revealed promising results. The children were split into two groups: one using the Shamir Myopia Control (SMC) lens design, and the other using conventional single-vision spectacle lenses (SVL). Over the course of 12 months, the SMC lens group exhibited a notable reduction in axial length (AL) and spherical equivalent refractive errors (SER), particularly among younger children and those with two myopic parents. AL progression slowed by 41% and SER by 43% in the 6-10 age group. For children with two myopic parents, AL and SER progression slowed by 45% and 42%, respectively.
