This systematic review examined the stress levels experienced by patients and dentists during root canal treatment compared to other dental procedures. A comprehensive search strategy was employed, and 23 studies were ultimately included, with varying levels of certainty. The findings indicated that root canal treatment induced greater psychological stress in patients than routine restorative or cleaning procedures. However, the relative stress levels of root canal treatment compared to other procedures, such as extractions, were inconclusive for both patients and dental providers. It is recommended that dental providers address patient concerns and minimize biases when discussing treatment options.
