Evaluation of the effects of ezetimibe on albuminuria and kidney fat in individuals with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease

This study aimed to examine the effects of ezetimibe on urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) and kidney parenchyma fat content (kidney-PF) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and early chronic kidney disease. The study involved a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 49 participants. After 16 weeks of treatment, it was found that ezetimibe did not significantly decrease UACR or kidney-PF compared to placebo in the overall group. However, in participants with high baseline kidney-PF, ezetimibe did show a significant reduction in kidney-PF but not in UACR. Therefore, while ezetimibe did not have a significant impact on UACR and kidney-PF in the general population, it did reduce kidney-PF in those with high baseline levels.
