Recent evidence suggests that sexual minority adults might be at increased risk of hypertension compared with heterosexual adults. However, disparities by sexual identity in antihypertensive medication use among adults with hypertension have not been comprehensively examined. Bisexual women were at higher risk of untreated hypertension, which may be attributed to lower healthcare utilization due to fear of discrimination from healthcare providers and socioeconomic disadvantage. Future research is needed to understand better factors that may contribute to untreated hypertension among bisexual women with hypertension.
