Explore Impact of Odor Deprivation on Cleanroom Workers' Olfactory Function and Well-being

A study assessed the influence of odor deprivation on individuals working in odorless environments. It recruited 50 cleanroom workers with prolonged exposure and 50 individuals without such exposure. Using various measures, including the Sniffin' Sticks test and nasal airflow assessments, they found that cleanroom workers had slightly lower olfactory scores and reduced nasal airflow compared to controls, even after accounting for age and self-reported nasal patency. The duration of cleanroom work negatively affected olfactory function, implying that odorous stimulation may play a role in maintaining olfactory functioning and overall well-being among professionals in odorless environments.
