
This study aimed to characterize fundus autofluorescence (FAF) in macular atrophy lesions using fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmology (FLIO) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients. FAF lifetimes were significantly longer, and peak emission wavelengths were shorter in incomplete (iRORA) and complete retinal pigment epithelium and outer retinal atrophy (cRORA) lesions compared to intact RPE. FLIO helped identify potential sources of fluorescence, including drusen and sub-RPE material.
