A cross-sectional study examined 473 Active-Duty Service members (ADSM) and 502 veterans to explore links between self-reported traumatic brain injury (TBI) and hearing loss. Findings revealed that 25% of ADSM and 41% of veterans reported a TBI. Military-related TBI was associated with worse hearing thresholds across all frequencies in veterans and in high frequency ranges in ADSM. Veterans with military-related TBI or nonmilitary TBI had lower speech recognition in noise. Those with military-related TBI were more likely to report hearing difficulty. The study underscores the impact of TBI on hearing in military personnel.

A retrospective study of 161 adults found that plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) improved early soft tissue healing after endodontic surgery when used alone. Margin-controlled surgery, imiquimod or radiotherapy may be considered for selected lesions.

A proteomic study found elevated IL-6, IL-8, MIP-1α/CCL3 and MIP-1β/CCL4 in patients with mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP). In nine patients with severe, treatment-refractory MMP, tocilizumab reduced mean disease activity scores from 14.8 to 4.2. At final evaluation, 78% achieved partial remission and 11% complete remission.
