Exploring the Frequency and Risks of Psychotic Symptoms in Drug-Naïve Youth with Major Depressive Disorder

A study involving 917 young, drug-naïve patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) revealed a 9.1% rate of psychotic symptoms during their first episode. Factors such as thyroid-stimulating hormone, blood glucose, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and anxiety were significantly different between those with and without psychotic depression. The study identified associations between psychotic symptoms and HAMD, TSH, TC, and severe anxiety. Notably, the psychotic subgroup showed a higher rate of suicide attempts (45.8%) compared to the non-psychotic subgroup (16.9%). The findings emphasize the prevalence and associated factors of psychotic symptoms in young MDD patients.
