
A recent investigation conducted with 97,503 diabetes-free participants from the UK Biobank cohort has shed light on the connection between rest-activity rhythms (RAR) and the onset of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The study assessed RAR parameters such as inter-daily stability, intra-daily variability, relative amplitude (RA), most active continuous 10-hour period (M10), and least active continuous 5-hour period (L5). Findings revealed that individuals in the lowest quartile of RA and M10 faced a significantly higher T2D risk, and high L5 quartiles were also associated with greater T2D risk. These risks remained even after adjusting for potential confounding factors.
