This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of peri-fistular tissue augmentation as a treatment option for periprosthetic leakage in laryngectomized patients with a voice prosthesis. The review analyzed 15 selected articles reporting on 196 peri-fistular tissue augmentation procedures in 97 patients. The results showed that tissue augmentation treatment is a safe and minimally invasive solution that can temporarily resolve periprosthetic leaks in many cases, with 88.7% of the treatments resulting in the cessation of leakage. However, the level of evidence of the studies was generally low, and future randomized studies are needed to confirm these results.
