Extensive Macular Atrophy with Pseudodrusen-like appearance (EMAP): Late-stage findings

This retrospective cohort study examined 78 patients (156 eyes) with Extensive Macular Atrophy with Pseudodrusen-like appearance (EMAP). Assessing clinical outcomes and late-stage findings, researchers analyzed visual acuity, visual field, and imaging results. While genetic testing didn't reveal pathogenic variants, imaging revealed Bruch’s membrane ruptures in 25.4% of eyes, with NIR-AF showcasing choroidal vessel visibility beyond atrophy in 87.2% of eyes. Incidence rates for blindness and atrophy enlargement were calculated. Despite no age influence, characteristic imaging findings were noted in older EMAP patients.
