Externally validated prediction models for pre‐eclampsia

A systematic review and meta-analysis assessed 52 externally validated prediction models for pre-eclampsia, including any, early, late-onset, and preterm cases. These models exhibited limited consistency in predictor variables, with maternal characteristics and biomarkers being common. The FMF model excelled in predicting preterm pre-eclampsia with an AUROC of 0.90 and good calibration. However, most other models showed poor to fair discrimination performance (AUROC median 0.66) and overfitting during external validation. Only two models for any-onset pre-eclampsia, based on maternal characteristics, achieved reasonable AUROCs of 0.71 and 0.73. These findings highlight the need for improved, standardized prediction models for pre-eclampsia.
