The SHOCK-ICU study investigates the feasibility of using continuous ketamine infusions for sedation in 30 ICU patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Given the drawbacks of traditional sedatives, including side effects and long-term psychological sequelae, ketamine's safety and antidepressant properties make it a promising alternative. The non-randomized feasibility study collects data on recruitment rates, data collection feasibility, and clinical efficacy, paving the way for further randomized controlled trials in ICU sedation.
